Dog Park Etiquette Every Owner Should Know

Dog parks are wonderful — off-lead play, socialisation, and tired dogs by the end. But they only work well when everyone follows some basic etiquette. Here are the unwritten rules every dog owner should know.

Always Supervise

A dog park is not a drop-and-scroll zone. Watch your dog at all times, read their body language, and be ready to intervene if play gets too rough. Your dog is your responsibility.

Pick Up After Your Dog

This should go without saying, but it needs saying. Bring bags. Use them. Every time. No exceptions. A tote bag is perfect for carrying bags, treats, and water to the park.

Make Sure Your Dog Has ID

Off-lead means there is always a small chance your dog could bolt — after a bird, a squirrel, or just because. Wearing a QR Smart Pet ID Tag means if they do escape the park, anyone who finds them can contact you immediately.

Respect Other Dogs and Owners

Not all dogs want to play. Not all owners want your dog jumping on them. Ask before approaching other dogs, recall yours when asked, and give space to dogs who are nervous or reactive.

Leave When It Is Time

If your dog is overtired, overstimulated, or causing conflict, it is time to go. Knowing when to leave is as important as knowing when to arrive.
