A healthy gut starts with healthy gut bacteria, and this probiotic-rich bowl is designed to support and replenish your dog's beneficial gut flora. Yoghurt and kefir provide live probiotic cultures, banana feeds those good bacteria with prebiotic fibre, and the gentle protein from chicken keeps it balanced. This is a fantastic daily maintenance meal for dogs with chronic sensitive stomachs, or as a recovery meal after a course of antibiotics.

- 1/4 cup pumpkin puree
- 1 tablespoon honey (optional)
Instructions
- Boil chicken breast until cooked through. Shred finely.

- Combine shredded chicken, cooked oats, and mashed banana.
- Stir in yoghurt, kefir (if using), and pumpkin puree.
- Add honey if using.

- Do not heat after adding yoghurt and kefir — heat kills probiotics.
Storage
Refrigerate for up to 2 days. Best made fresh for maximum probiotic benefit. Do not freeze (freezing kills some probiotic cultures).
Nutrition Notes
Yoghurt and kefir contain live Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium cultures — beneficial bacteria that support digestive health. Banana provides fructooligosaccharides (FOS), a prebiotic fibre that feeds these good bacteria. Oats provide beta-glucan fibre that supports the gut environment. Pumpkin adds soluble fibre for stool regulation. This combination of probiotics + prebiotics = synbiotic effect for optimal gut health.
Tips
- Always use plain, unsweetened yoghurt — check for xylitol which is toxic to dogs.
- Kefir has even more probiotic strains than yoghurt — it's a fantastic addition.
- This meal is excellent after a course of antibiotics which can wipe out beneficial gut bacteria.
- Don't heat the meal after adding probiotics — they're live cultures that die with heat.
- Ripe bananas are easier to digest and have more prebiotic benefit than green ones.
