Prebiotics are the unsung heroes of gut health — they're the food that feeds your dog's beneficial gut bacteria, helping them thrive and multiply. This prebiotic feast is loaded with ingredients rich in fructooligosaccharides (FOS) and inulin — the favourite foods of good gut bacteria. A thriving gut microbiome supports not just digestion but also immune function, mood, and overall health. Feed the good bugs, and they'll take care of your dog.

Nutrition Notes
Sweet potato, banana, and asparagus are all rich in prebiotic fibres (FOS and inulin) that selectively feed beneficial Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus bacteria in the gut. Oats provide beta-glucan, another prebiotic fibre. Yoghurt adds live probiotic cultures. Flaxseed provides prebiotic fibre plus omega-3 ALA. This combination of prebiotics + probiotics creates a synbiotic effect — the gold standard for gut microbiome support.
Tips
- Prebiotics feed the good bacteria already in your dog's gut — they're like fertiliser for a healthy garden.
- Asparagus is a potent prebiotic but should be finely chopped for easy digestion.
- This meal is particularly valuable after a course of antibiotics which can devastate gut bacteria.
- Banana provides FOS prebiotic fibre that specifically supports Bifidobacterium growth.
- Consistency matters — regular prebiotic feeding has cumulative benefits over time.
