Senior Lamb & Root Vegetable Comfort Bowl

Senior Lamb & Root Vegetable Comfort Bowl

This gentle, warming lamb and root vegetable bowl is the ultimate comfort food for senior dogs. Root vegetables like sweet potato, carrot, and parsnip are naturally sweet and soft when cooked, making them ideal for older dogs that may have lost some teeth or have sensitive gums. The lamb provides rich, flavourful protein that even fussy senior dogs find appealing. Sometimes our oldest friends need a little extra love in their bowl.

Nutrition Notes

Root vegetables are naturally rich in vitamins A and C, fibre, and antioxidants. When cooked soft, they're extremely easy to digest. Lamb provides iron, B12, and zinc — important for maintaining energy and immune function in aging dogs. Bone broth adds joint-supporting collagen and glucosamine. Turmeric's anti-inflammatory properties support overall comfort.

Tips

  • Mash or blend for dogs with missing teeth or sore gums.
  • Root vegetables become naturally sweet when slow-cooked, making this appealing to dogs that have lost some sense of taste with age.
  • Parsnip is often overlooked but is an excellent, dog-safe root vegetable.
  • Serve warm (not hot) to enhance aroma for senior dogs with reduced sense of smell.
