Sodium restriction is another important piece of the kidney-support puzzle, as excess sodium can raise blood pressure and worsen kidney damage. This stew uses no added salt and relies on lamb's natural flavour to create a meal your dog will actually want to eat. The stew format adds extra hydration, and the slow cooking makes everything incredibly tender and easy to digest β perfect for dogs who may have lost some of their appetite.

π Nutrition Notes
This recipe uses plain water instead of stock to control sodium content. Commercial stocks often contain 400-900mg sodium per cup β far too much for kidney-compromised dogs. Lamb's natural flavour means your dog won't miss the stock. The stew format increases fluid intake naturally.
π‘ Tips
- Never use commercial stock cubes or liquid stock β too much sodium
- Plain water works perfectly as lamb creates its own flavourful broth
- Keep portions consistent β measure don't estimate
- Monitor your dog's weight regularly as kidney disease can cause weight loss
β οΈ Important: Kidney disease requires veterinary management. Always consult your vet before changing your dog's diet if they have kidney issues. These recipes are designed to support kidney health alongside veterinary care, not replace it.
