L-carnitine is an amino acid that plays a vital role in helping the heart muscle convert fat into energy, and a deficiency has been linked to heart disease in dogs. Lamb heart is loaded with natural L-carnitine, plus it's an affordable and sustainable protein source. This meal pairs it with easy-to-digest pumpkin and nutrient-rich vegetables for a comprehensive heart-support dinner that your vet would approve of.

π Nutrition Notes
Lamb heart contains one of the highest concentrations of L-carnitine found in any food β approximately 78mg per 100g. L-carnitine is essential for fatty acid transport into mitochondria where it's converted to energy for heart muscle contraction. Combined with taurine (also present in heart meat) and omega-3s from fish oil, this meal provides triple cardiac support.
π‘ Tips
- Heart meat is classified as muscle meat, not organ meat
- Ask your butcher for lamb hearts β they're usually very affordable
- Trim all visible fat for the leanest result
- This is particularly beneficial for Dobermans, Boxers, and Cocker Spaniels
β οΈ Important: Heart disease requires veterinary management. Always consult your vet before changing your dog's diet if they have heart conditions. These recipes are designed to support heart health alongside veterinary care, not replace it.
