Lamb & Barley Farmhouse Dinner

Lamb & Barley Farmhouse Dinner

This rustic lamb and barley dinner is wholesome, hearty, and packed with nutrition. Lamb is an excellent protein source that many dogs love, and it's a great option for dogs that may have developed sensitivities to more common proteins like chicken or beef. Barley adds a lovely texture along with B vitamins and fibre. It's the kind of meal that makes your whole kitchen smell amazing — and your dog will be waiting by their bowl long before it's ready.

Nutrition Notes

Lamb provides high-quality protein, iron, and B12. It's a novel protein for many dogs, making it useful in rotation diets or for dogs with chicken/beef sensitivities. Pearl barley is a good source of fibre, selenium, and B vitamins. Rosemary is a dog-safe herb with antioxidant properties.

Tips

  • Drain excess fat from the lamb mince after browning if it's not lean.
  • Pearl barley takes a while to cook — you can prepare a big batch and refrigerate for use across multiple recipes.
  • Rosemary is safe for dogs in small amounts and adds flavour, but it's optional.
  • This recipe works well as a protein rotation option — alternate with chicken and beef meals weekly.
