Duck & Sweet Potato Dinner

Duck is a rich, flavourful protein that many dogs find absolutely irresistible. It's an excellent novel protein option for dogs that have sensitivities to chicken or turkey. Combined with creamy sweet potato and nutrient-dense kale, this dinner is restaurant-quality for your four-legged friend. The natural richness of duck means a little goes a long way, making this a satisfying and special meal.

Ingredients

  • 400g duck breast (skin removed), diced
  • 2 medium sweet potatoes, cubed
  • 1 cup kale, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup peas
  • 1 cup carrots, diced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Cook the diced duck for 6–8 minutes until cooked through.
  2. In a separate pot, boil the sweet potato cubes for 12–15 minutes until tender. Drain.
  3. Steam the carrots and peas for 5 minutes until tender.
  4. Wilt the kale in the pan with the duck for 1–2 minutes.
  5. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Lightly mash some of the sweet potato to create a creamy texture.
  6. Allow to cool to room temperature before serving.

Storage

Refrigerate for up to 4 days. Freeze for up to 3 months.

Nutrition Notes

Duck is rich in iron, selenium, and B vitamins. It's higher in fat than chicken, providing excellent energy for active dogs. Sweet potato offers beta-carotene and fibre. Kale is a superfood packed with vitamins A, C, and K, plus antioxidants.

Tips

  • Remove all duck skin to reduce fat content.
  • Duck is richer than chicken — you may need slightly smaller portions.
  • Kale should be finely chopped or lightly cooked for easier digestion.
  • A great option for dogs in a protein rotation diet.
